The sports center in Barcelona's Turó de la Peira neighborhood is a unique building 42.65 meters long and 26.28 meters wide that has already become an architectural reference thanks to its KM0 radiata pine wood core and structure, its green facade, and its energy-efficient and sustainable design. Mapei 2019 Award for sustainable architecture, this project sits on a 5,500 m2 site and is composed of two floors occupied by a swimming pool and a multi-sports court. It consists of a spectacular structure composed of 9 laminated wood porticoes, supported by 18-meter-high pillars, 25-meter-high beams and 2.4-meter-high lattices on the roofs. The use of wood for this installation is due, as architect Anna Noguera explains , to the fact that this material offers optimum performance in conditions of humidity and water condensation, and that it is perfectly suited to the environment of a swimming pool. These are conditions that make it a much more appropriate material for this environment than steel, which requires protection and additional treatments to prevent corrosion.
"It has been a very demanding construction at a technical level, where a lot of effort has been invested both in terms of calculations and development of details as well as on-site control. Egoin is the only national company with the capacity to develop a project of this magnitude," explains architect Anna Noguera.
