The Catalan city of Vic has a new cultural and architectural landmark: the Pilarín Bayés Library, an innovative project that reinforces the network of cultural facilities in the town. This building, designed by BCQ Arquitectura Barcelona, stands as a symbol of cultural cohesion and sustainability, largely thanks to the collaboration with Egoin, which has contributed its experience in wood construction solutions.

Egoin has been a key player in the materialization of the facade of the new library, which stands out for its innovative design and functionality. The 700 m² façade is composed of Accoya laminated wood slats, a material selected for its great outdoor durability thanks to treatments with organic materials and its dimensional stability.

"Collaborating with Egoin has been essential to materialize the architectural vision of the Pilarín Bayés Library. Their experience and technical capacity have allowed us to develop a solution in wood that not only solves the functional needs of the building, but also adds an aesthetic and sustainable value that enriches the project as a whole," explained Jordi Sánchez, architect at BCQ Arquitectura Barcelona.

The construction process for this façade was a technical challenge. The complex geometry of the pieces, with trapezoidal shapes and inclined cuts, required high-precision work and the combination of several numerical control machines. This effort has resulted in a façade that integrates seamlessly with the concrete structure of the building, hanging from it by means of metal fittings designed specifically for this project. The longest pieces of the façade are 9 meters high, with a timber volume of 70 m3.

The use of Accoya-treated wood not only provides great resistance and stability of the material to inclement weather when the wood is used outdoors, but also dimensional stability, in addition to reinforcing the project's commitment to sustainability. This material, known for its low maintenance, is ideal for projects that seek to minimize their environmental impact. In addition, the double façade, which combines a glazed interior with the outer layer of wood, contributes to the creation of a microclimate that reduces the need for air conditioning, thus reducing energy consumption.
