This pedestrian bridge was built over a railway line in San Juan del Puerto (Huelva) to provide comfortable safe access for pedestrians after the closure a few years ago of a level crossing which generated a traffic flow not compliant with safety regulations.
A larch structure, metal supports and concrete foundations, with a length of 225.5 m and a height of 7 m was built. It consists of 13 sections (6 ascending ramps, 1 crossing over the railway line and 6 descending ramps with a gentle slope of 8% to facilitate access without steps. With 2 m of width, it has all the safety protections needed to meet legal requirements and prevent falls or possible accidents.
Larch GL24h homogeneous glued laminated timber was used. The overall building plan of the pedestrian bridge is based on the separate construction of independent sections in a single piece at the workshop; which were later moved and assembled. Land was transported to a marshland adjoining the south section of the bridge.
