85 SOCIAL DWELLINGS
In recent years, structural timber construction has been gaining height, a clear example of this is the 21m high building erected Cornellá (Barcelona), with 5 storeys and a total of 85 social rental flats. This residential building was erected on the plot of an old cinema. Its design is iconic comprising a matrix of 108 communicating timber spaces, eliminating private and common corridors to make maximum use of the space.
Altogether, 2,100 m3 of CLT was used and an approximate area of 13,000 m2 built, which is a construction display showing the specific weight timber is gaining in the construction sector. Itâ??s the largest residential building erected in our environment to date. Developed by the Metropolitan Institute of Real Estate Development and Heritage Management in Barcelona (IMPSOL), it was designed by the Peris + Toral Arquitectes studio.
